This research aims to create a methodological approach for predictive models for submerged archaeological sites. The research project is related to a project for creating a predictive model for a 100 sq. km. stretch of the Southern Bulgarian Coast, both inland and underwater. Partners in this project are the Department of Archaeology and the Department of GIS (Geographical Information Sciences) in Sofia University and the Center for Underwater Archaeology, Sozopol. This will be the first predictive model in Bulgaria. For that purpose a high precision bathymetric and elevation digital model of an area of 100 sq. km. was created using an airborne LIDAR laser system. The research area includes the sea bottom, which makes the project a worldwide pioneer.
