Archaeobotanical researches are of great significance for archaeological interpretations because they are valuable source of information, especially connected with cultural, economical and technological changes. Analyses of the woodland use during the Antiquity show very interesting results, which give new insights on the extended human impact on the vegetation and woodland uses during this period. However such information is very scarce from Bulgaria until now. Only few information is available on woodland use, due to lack of qualified specialists for work on this material, although wood charcoals are plentiful available in the archaeological layers. Several identifications of wood macro-remains in Bulgaria for the period of interest have been made by Popova. But only more systematical and detailed study can give a reliable picture of the woodland use during the study period. The work on this project will be very helpful for extending our knowledge on plant diversity and their usage in Ancient times in South East Europe.
