The American Research Center in Sofia (ARCS) was established in 2004 as an organization dedicated to facilitating academic research in Bulgaria for North American scholars and collaboration between scholars from North America and countries in Southeast Europe (Albania, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia).
A principal aim of ARCS is to foster research and collaboration between North American scholars and those in Southeast European countries, formerly deprived of access to Western scholarship.
Marijana Vukovic, PhD candidate in the Department of Medieval Studies, Central European University, Budapest, and ARCS fellow, will lead a seminar on the topic of 'Comparative Textual and Manuscript Study of Early Christian Martyrdom Narratives'. This event is free of charge and open to the public. The language of discussion will be English. This seminar will take place at the American Research Center in Sofia, 75 Vasil Petleshkov St., 1510 Sofia, Bulgaria.
Drs. Frank and Irene Schubert will lead a seminar on the topic of 'Border Stories: A Century on Hungarian Frontiers'. The event is free of charge and open to the public. The language of discussion will be English. This seminar will take place at the American Research Center in Sofia, 75 Vasil Petleshkov St., 1510 Sofia.
Thanks to the generosity of Robert and Nellie Gipson (the Tianaderrah Foundation), the American Research Center in Sofia (ARCS), Bulgaria invites applications for three-month fellowships to conduct research at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA) or the American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT), Istanbul and Ankara Centers. Research projects in any field of the humanities are eligible. The application deadline for this fellowship competition had been extended until June 1, 2012.
