The lecture will discuss the hoaxes produced in Bulgarian historiography motivated by nationalistic ideology: narratives about the alleged forceful Islamization and 2 volumes so called fakelore "Veda "Slovena"; and the cases of falsifications of history fabricated by the communist regime: the theory of the "Socialist Revolution" in 1944, the invented story of the anti-fascist struggle, the secret preparations for Bulgaria to join the USSR.

  • Speaker: Prof. Evelina Kelbecheva teaches history at the American University in Bulgaria. She has been on the team of experts of the American Research Center in Sofia.
