Gipson Fellowships for Recent PhDs in the Humanities, 2014-15



THE PROGRAM: Thanks to the generosity of Robert and Nellie Gipson (the Tianaderrah Foundation), the American Research Center in Sofia invites applications from Bulgarian postdoctoral scholars for a three-month fellowship to conduct research at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens or the American Research Institute in Turkey, Ankara or Istanbul centers. Research projects in any field of the humanities are eligible.

THE FELLOWSHIPS: The Robert and Nellie Gipson Fellowship includes accommodation in Athens, Istanbul, or Ankara for three months, a meal allowance, and a monthly stipend; fellows will be reimbursed up to $500 for research travel conducted during the fellowship and will be additionally reimbursed up to $500 for other research expenses incurred during the fellowship (including, but not limited to, book purchases and copying). The fellowship must be held for three consecutive months between October 1, 2014 and April 30, 2015. Gipson Fellows will present a written report (ca. 1000 words) on their research and make an oral presentation at ARCS after the term of their fellowship.

ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be Bulgarian citizens currently residing in Bulgaria and must have successfully defended their first PhD within the past 8 years (in 2006, or later). English proficiency is required; knowledge of modern Greek or Turkish is an advantage.
