Study Abroad Summer Program
The American Research Center in Sofia launches a series of archaeological trips in the Balkans. Since its first summer session program in 2006, ARCS has recognized the importance of field trips as an essential educational tool for visitors in the region. In summer of 2016 ARCS will offer a week-long trip in Bulgaria devoted to museums and select archaeological sites of national and of world significance. The trip is designed for students, teachers, and all who have a serious interest in the archaeology and antiquity of Bulgaria.
Trip itinerary
July 24 – arrival in SOFIA and welcome dinner
July 25 – Roman Serdica and visit Trajan’s Gate – night in PLOVDIV
July 26 – Roman Philippopolis and museums – night in HISARYA
July 27 – Starosel tomb and Diocletianopolis– night at KAZANLAK
July 28 – Kazanlak, Shushmanetz, Otrusha tombs – night in VELIKO TARNOVO
July 29 – Tsarevets and museums – night in VELIKO TARNOVO
July 30 – Nicopolis ad Istrum and Pavlikeni villa – night in SOFIA
July 31 – return to USA
Cost
The trip cost is $1500, which includes:
- ground transport during the excursion
- 7 nights in 3-star hotels with breakfast
- museum/site tickets
- on-site instruction
This fee does not include airfare, transport to/from hotel in Sofia, travel insurance and lunch/dinner.
Application deadline
In order to apply, please send a filled out Application Form (see attachment below) and a Letter of Interest explaining your current position and how you will benefit from the trip by May 1, 2016. All materials should be sent to usadmin@arcsofia.org
