Nayden Prahov, Department of Archaeology, Sofia University

This research project aims to create a methodological approach for predictive models for submerged archaeological sites, specifically a 100 km. stretch of the Southern Bulgarian Coast, both inland and underwater. Partners in this project are the Department of Archaeology and the Department of GIS (Geographical Information Sciences) in Sofia University and the Center for Underwater Archaeology, Sozopol. This will be the first predictive model in Bulgaria. For the purpose, a high precision bathymetric and elevation aerial image of an area of 100 sq. km. was created using a LIDAR laser system by Blom Aerofilms, GB. The area of research - the sea bottom, makes this project a pioneering one worldwide.
