The aim of the archaeometric investigation is to examine some aspects of the character, structure, function, and social significance of Bronze Age metallurgy on the territory of present Bulgaria. The objects of analysis are bronze weapons and tools. This technological study explores whether there is a variation in the chemical composition of copper alloy prepared for the production of different artefacts in order to improve their quality of function. In case there are such differences they should be accepted as intentional and as an indication for high technological level achieved by ancient metal-workers. An alternative explanation of the supposed chemical variation is that the objects are products of different production centers or workshops that were using metals from different sources. Another issue examined in the project is the distribution of pure metal prepared for melting and production of copper alloy finds and also evidence for recycling and reuse of metal.
