The most important factor in the dynamic 3rd century AD was the Gothic pressure on the Danubian limes and the invasions of the Goths into Moesia inferior, Thracia and even further southwards. They practically dominated and predetermined the rule of the Emperors. These attacks decided the fate of the Empire whose integrity depends on the events taking place in the Balkan provinces. This is one of the main reasons why this topic deserves special attention. This research will contribute to a fuller understanding of all Balkan provinces and will further determine the significance of the Lower Danubian limes as a key zone for the protection of the Empire.
