Cherven was founded in the 11th century and destroyed at the end of the 16th century. The town occupied a significant place in the history of Bulgaria and Wallachia in the 12th-14th century. The Bishop's Residence, dated 15th-16th century, is the only one in Bulgaria and it gives details about the material condition of the Church during the Early Ottoman period, about the everyday life of the bishops, and the structure of their residences. The lack of conservation and restoration activities on the site is resulting in the demolition of the architecture built with stone and mud mortar.

The project's tasks are the following:

* Restoration, conservation, and exhibition of the Bishop's complex from the 15th-16th century.
* Conservation and exhibition of movable cultural valuables found on the site.
* Organization of an educational module for archaeology for young students.
* Elaboration of a guidebook for the Rousse Lom River valley and production of a 27-minute movie, called 'The Unknown Valley: Journey along the Rousse Lom'.
