This project attempts to establish a balanced vantage point from which both the faults and the constructive elements of Bulgarian socialist culture appears in their complexity. The discussion of these troubled legacies will specifically benefit from a focus on the image of the child as a potent semantic tool for ideological signification. The International Children's Assembly envisions and materializes an empowered image of childhood, unprecedented in its agency and scope as an alternative to Cold War discourse.
